The Grana Padano from Colla SpA offered in Rewe branches is being recalled.
The reason is a labeling error that can be dangerous for allergy sufferers.
Cadeo - The company Colla SpA calls back the "Grana Padano, 16 months matured, 200g".
The recall takes place for reasons of preventive consumer protection.
It can be dangerous for allergy sufferers because of a labeling error.
Affected are products with the
best before
date
26.09.21
with batch L: 1704 and
02.10.21
with batch L: 1803.
Some of the
affected articles were provided with an incorrect back label with “Pecorino Romano”.
Due to this labeling error, there is no indication that the product contains the ingredient "lysozyme from egg", explains the company in a press release.
Product recall: Grana Padano mislabelled
The lack of labeling can be dangerous for consumers who are allergic to eggs.
We therefore advise against consuming the affected Grana Padano.
The company emphasizes that only products with the wrong back label “Pecorino Romano” are affected.

Colla SpA claims to have immediately withdrawn the goods concerned from the sale.
The hard cheese was available in Rewe branches and can also be returned there without presenting the receipt.
Customers are reimbursed the purchase price in the respective Rewe store.
Another food manufacturer also had to start a recall: the varnish had come off in some cans of tomato sauce and so contaminated the sauce.
Labeling errors at Grana Padano: Consequences for allergy sufferers
With a chicken egg allergy, symptoms such as swallowing difficulties, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea and flatulence can occur, explains the European Foundation for Allergy Research (ECARF).
In addition, redness, wheals and itching of the skin can occur.
In the worst case, it can even lead to anaphylactic shock with shortness of breath and cardiac arrest.
According to ECARF, this rarely happens.
