That's it: The Munich Volkstheater at Brienner Straße 50 is history.
The last time they played here was on Sunday.
After “Macbeth”, Artistic Director Christian Stückl gave an emotional speech - and picked up the ax.
The Münchner Volkstheater had been located at Brienner Strasse 50 since 1983.
Now the lights went out there with “Macbeth”.
The new Volkstheater at Tumblingerstraße 29 will open on October 15, 2021.
Suddenly he has a hatchet in his hand, someone has passed it to him from the side stage.
With the tool in his right hand, Christian Stückl talks about Jakob Immervoll.
“Jakob always had a dream,” reveals the director of the Munich Volkstheater.
"He wants to take a piece of the stage with him." Pause.
“Jakob, get yourself a piece!” She calls and hands the actor the ax.
Immervoll, who has just fanned out the agony of Shakespeare's Macbeth for 105 minutes, hesitates briefly, laughs - and strikes.

The new Volkstheater will open on October 15th
It is a special memento of a place that has long been inscribed in the city's theatrical history.
After 38 years, the theater was played for the last time on Sunday at Brienner Strasse 50, a converted gymnasium that has always remained a makeshift.
“Macbeth”, staged by Philipp Arnold, turned off the light.
Of course, you never go that far, so this remarkable production, which has won again since the premiere, is moving to the Schlachthofviertel.
The new theater there will open on October 15th;
There will be house tours for the curious as early as September.

Stückl has just received the key, or more precisely: a key chip, for his future stage.
The house is big, much bigger than the previous one.
“When I'm inside, I sometimes feel like Tebartz-van Elst,” says the director in memory of the former Bishop of Limburg, who can certainly be said to have an exquisite taste in interior design combined with a detailed craze for furnishings.

Don't let anyone think that the new Volkstheater is a palace. They deserved it and fought long enough for it. The principal knows that the new building would still be a dream today without the city and its support.
