Many have to submit a tax return for the Corona year 2020.

If you haven't done the chore yet, you should know when the deadline is this year.

The

deadline for filing the tax return for 2020

was initially set at July 31 - but only for those who are obliged to submit it.

But in the meantime the

Bundestag has

decided

to extend

this

deadline to October 31, 2021

*.

But: the

Federal Council

still has to approve this change;

according to the German Press Agency (dpa), however, approval is expected.

For those who rely on the help of a tax advisor or income tax aid association for their tax return, the deadline would then be extended from the end of February to the end of May 2022.

Is the deadline for filing tax returns 2020 on October 31?

The

approval of the Federal Council

can be expected, said Erich Nöll, managing director of the Bundesverband Lohnsteuerhilfevereine (BVL) in Berlin on request.

Currently applies to

taxpayers who prepare their tax return even

for those

tax returns in 2020

 nor the

31 July

 as a

deadline

, as also the Lohnsteuerhilfeverein United Lohnsteuerhilfe e.

V. (VLH) communicated on request;

but as soon as the Federal Council agrees, taxpayers will have

until October 31, 2021

.

When will taxpayers finally be certain of the deadline?

As it was said, the Federal Council should deal with the issue in June.

If the Federal Council approves an extension, as expected by the experts, everyone who

has not yet completed

their

tax return for 2020

and is obliged to submit it would definitely have a little longer time.

seniors also

have to file a tax return.

Whether this is the case depends on the amount of the gross pension and the year of the start of retirement, as the dpa report says, among other things.
