In the fight against food waste: At Community Kitchen Munich, food is to be saved and deliciously prepared that would otherwise end up in the bin.
Expired dairy products, stale bread, leftover food: food is thrown away far too often even though it is still edible.
According to the consumer advice center, around 12 million tons of food end up in the garbage every year in Germany.
In Munich alone,
168 tons of garbage
are generated
in private households - every day
! A waste of resources and an unnecessary production of garbage. Because it's not just about the organic waste that arises, but also the cultivation, harvest, packaging and transport of the products. CO2 emissions occur in every production step, food becomes moldy when it is stored, or it is simply too crooked or not conforming to the norm to be sold in the supermarket. All of this only to end up in the garbage can?

wrote on the flags.
Behind it is the initiator Günes Seyfarth, who has been a passionate food saver for eight years, who reports on your project in the video (see above) in an interview with Daniel Quero Espino.

Community Kitchen Munich: Save food and prepare it deliciously
Their goal: to
reduce food waste
by saving food and using it for what it was intended for - eating.
For this purpose, food that would otherwise end up in the garbage is checked for consumption, cleaned and processed.
Community Kitchen prepares delicious meals from such foods, which you can get
from September directly in the restaurant in Neuperlach
or book as catering for daycare centers, schools and companies in Munich.
In the Munich kitchen, 7 tons of food can be saved and processed every day.
In addition, the brand is also available in jars: Preserves such as soups, chutneys, jams and dried foods can then be bought across Germany through food retailers and the Community Kitchen online shop.
Also interesting:
Correct storage: It is better not to store these fruits and vegetables together.
Community Kitchen Munich project against food waste
Community Kitchen Munich also has various social aspects: With a voluntary donation, you can sponsor a meal for someone else, hand in groceries at the entrance or take away free of charge.
Anyone who has the time and inclination can help in the join-in kitchen; volunteers are always welcome.
In addition, nutrition and food courses for all age groups teach:
How do I know how long something can be kept?
How do I process food?
How do I preserve food?
According to Seyfarth, a change that can make a significant contribution to climate protection is only possible through further training for people in this area.
Because
reducing food waste
is the third most effective measure in climate protection.
Each individual is asked to contribute a part.
