For only 299 euros, Aldi will be selling the Apple iPhone 8 in its online shop from July 1 in a campaign.
This is not the first time the discounter has used the strategy behind it.

Aldi Süd has announced a campaign in its online shop that will start on July 1st: Customers can then order an iPhone 8 for 299 euros.
For comparison: At the technology provider Media Markt, Apple's smartphones, which were released in 2017, now cost a little less than 500 euros with 64 GB of storage space.

So how does Aldi manage to offer the phones so much cheaper?
There was a similar campaign at the discounter last year, when the focus was on the iPhone 7.
The strategy behind both offers is the same: Customers don't get brand-new iPhones for their money, but so-called “refurbished models”, ie phones that have already been in use.
Aldi writes in its product description: “The devices are completely dismantled, checked and cleaned on an individual component basis.
Faulty components are replaced by original parts and the devices are reassembled. "

Anyone who buys one of the waterproof used models in black, silver or gold gets a 2-year guarantee on the device. According to Apple, the iOS update planned for autumn should also work without problems on the iPhone 8. On the other hand, the charging capacity of the battery is more of a weakness of the devices: at 1,800 mAh, it is significantly below that of newer iPhone models.
In principle, it also applies to used copies that it is worthwhile comparing offers with a view to individual needs.
The shipping giant Amazon, which is criticized for the destruction of returns, among other things, also offers older iPhone models in its "Renewed" program: the refurbished silver version of the iPhone 8 is even available again a cheaper price than at Aldi - but the warranty expires after one year, for example.
