While many people in Germany are still fleeing the heat on Monday afternoon and looking for a shady spot, thunderstorms are already brewing over the west of the republic: Especially in North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg there should be strong thunderstorms from Monday evening.

The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of severe thunderstorms with heavy rain in the west and southwest.

Precipitation amounts of 25 to 40 liters per square meter per hour are expected, as well as gusts of wind at speeds of around 80 km / h and hail.

The severe weather warning for the individual districts can be viewed on the DWD website.

In the course of the evening, the storms should migrate towards the middle and south of Germany.

Difficulty predicting the European Championship game

The humid air and the constantly changing low pressure areas are currently making it difficult for meteorologists to forecast the coming days.

The probability of further thunderstorms and storms is high, but their location is difficult to predict.

It remains to be seen in many regions whether the European Championship classic Germany-England can be followed outside in the best beer garden weather.

The meteorologists assume that showers and sometimes thunderstorm rain will shift from the center of Germany to the north on Tuesday.

Only in the northeast is it mostly serene.

During the course of the day, new, sometimes strong, thunderstorms with a risk of severe weather are expected in the southwest, which will spread by the middle of the evening.

The maximum temperatures in the western half of Germany are 20 to 26 degrees, in the east it is 26 to 32 degrees.

On Wednesday night, thunderstorms with a risk of storms move from Bavaria via Thuringia and Hesse to North Rhine-Westphalia.

Showers like rain and a few thunderstorms can also be expected on Wednesday.

Heavy rain could then occur, especially in the northeast, which had been spared until then.
