Alejandro Zacarías (28) speaks with
Clarín
from the
Dallas
airport
.
He is about to board but not on the flight that was going to take him back home.
He is a
chef
and spent two years in Canada for work.
He said goodbye yesterday to Calgary, in the Canadian province of Alberta, with the idea that, after a
stopover in the United States
, he would arrive in Buenos Aires.
It was not so.
"I'm moving, I'm trying to
return to my country
and a few hours ago my flight to Buenos Aires was canceled," he says.
He was traveling on American Airlines, he says that they tried to solve the problem but that
"going back to Argentina is not an option."
He is one of the Argentines affected by the
new restrictions
to enter the country.
The measure implemented by the Government, which since Monday only allows the arrival of
600 passengers per day,
aims to prevent the spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus, which could further complicate the health situation in Argentina.
Alejandro was surprised by that decision in the middle of the road.
“Now I am about to get on a plane that goes to Miami and they are going to put me on a
waiting list
.
On the other hand, there is a flight that leaves from Houston for Buenos Aires in 6 days that I could join.
The issue is that
it is not certain that it will leave ”
, he laments.
Due to the new restrictions on flights, there are already Argentines who are stranded and cannot return.

Immediately, think about what you are going to do with the
four suitcases
with which you left Canada.
“They don't cover me for lodging or food for the next few days so I'm going to have to go to a
hostel
, we'll see who welcomes me with so much luggage.
A hotel in those days is going to cost me $ 1,000, about 170,000 pesos.
I can't pay that, ”he
details, and complains about not having had the information before to
organize himself better.
“This panorama forces me to face
expenses that I had not foreseen.
If they had warned me, I would stay in Canada for a few more days, ”he says.
And he emphasizes that all he wants is "to get home now."
By "house" he refers to Corrientes.
His family and partner await him there.
“I haven't seen them for a year and a half.
My girlfriend was going to visit but
with the pandemic everything got complicated ”, he
shares.
Nicolás Merono (38) was returning to Buenos Aires tomorrow.
They also canceled his flight.
He traveled from Bariloche to West Lebanon, New Hampshire, near Boston, a week ago.
“I did not come for tourism nor did I get vaccinated.
I had to carry out an urgent procedure ”, he assures this newspaper.
He must leave the place he is renting soon and although he managed to have
his flight rescheduled
, he says he suspects that he will not leave.
“My return to Argentina was via New York.
When the cancellation came, I called American Airlines and they gave me an option for the next day, but I'm almost sure they
will suspend it again, ”he
warns.
And he adds: "If that happens,
I will go to the Argentine Embassy to complain."
Her wish is to return to Bariloche as soon as possible to
see her children.
"They are young: they are 4 and 6 years old, now they are with their mother, my ex-partner. I hope to return soon to be with them," he closes.
