Thousands will spend the summer on the Sea of Galilee, probably on the new beaches that have "reopened" to the public, but for those who have a little allergy to the load of visitors and bathers in the national lake, it is worth knowing that the morning begins with magic on the Sea of Galilee.

At five or six in the morning, when most people are not yet thinking of getting up, small groups of hikers armed with colorful kayaks set out to visit the "wet savannah of Israel".

The magic begins in the morning

David Afik, a guide from a kibbutz in the Hula Valley who has been a guide for years in Israel and around the world, especially in Asia, recently discovered kayak trips in the northeast corner of the Sea of Galilee, a promising valley, where quite a few streams, such as Magrasa and Zaki, end up flowing into the lake. The estuary area is the one that causes large vegetation to grow, and hence many animals also find shelter in the place. Just like the Amazon River, but in a small way.

In the corner on the lake shore, near the remains of the Bek House, which was an experimental settlement site at the beginning of the 20th century, Afiq and the kayaks, together with his partners Meir and Tom, are waiting, taking out sailing groups of up to 15 people.

"It all started last summer," he explains, "I started rowing alone with my kayak when I was unemployed in Corona, and then I accompanied swimmers on the Jordan with the kayak. Later I posted a trip with kayaks, but people didn't have a kayak and I was helped by friends they have and so the first group went out."

The magic begins in the morning, when the motorcycles, boats and other quiet distractions are still not visible in the water - then the sun rises, paints the water orange-blue, tiny ripples cover Eshel trees and others whose only protruding protrusion from the water and especially the bird kingdom begins with delightful singing.

Let the stillness of the water lead you

After a brief briefing and wearing life jackets, get into the double kayak and start rowing.

You do not need previous experience or knowledge of rowing, just put the paddle in the water, and let the stillness of the water lead you.

Among the tangled ashes, various species of herons are suddenly discovered, such as the purple heron, the end heron and the gray heron, but also the fish, the stinging butterfly.

A flock of dozens of cormorants took over an eucalyptus tree and dried their feathers in front of the rising sun, after a wet dive to locate fish for breakfast.

"We sometimes also see mammals like mongooses, badgers, foxes, pigs, porcupines," Afik adds.

We also stop on the bank, and Afik is already admiring the inspector of coffee and adding mamul to sweeten his diary.

Returning to the water and after a short hour of rowing, Afik navigates the kayaks to the estuary of Nahal Hazaki, where they paddle among vegetation that spreads on the water. It has a beautiful yellow flower and it takes roots in the water and spreads, "he explains.

Is it hard to get up in the morning?

There are also sunset tours

The rowing takes place until about 9 in the morning, but Afik and his friends also take sunset tours from five to eight in the evening, for those who find it difficult to get up early.

Beyond sailing in the Promise area and the Beit Tziida valley, cruises are also arranged to the northwestern part of the lake, to the Capernaum area and the churches, for those who are more interested in Christianity and Judaism, including bouncing back.

When the sun rises and is already blazing on the hat on your head (and a hat is a must), you realize it's time to paddle back.

On a mat under a series of huge eucalyptus trees, breathe a moment, sip cold watermelon, hot tea / coffee and curb the experience.

Bus takes aerial photos of the area from 1967 and goes on track subversion, and how to change the water level and the boundaries ever since. It's time to say goodbye and start your day in the Golan Heights, the Galilee or where you are. Still, only 9 am.
