Traveling into space with Jeff Bezos on July 20 will be 82-year-old Wally Funk, a former pilot who was banned from space decades ago, as a woman.
Funk was part of the so-called Mercury 13, the astronaut training program reserved for women in the 1960s. These were pilots who had all the qualifications to fly but were denied space due to their gender.
Funk will be the oldest person to set foot in space. "No one has waited any longer. Now is the time.
Welcome Wally, we are happy that you will fly with us on July 20 as the guest of honor," Bezos says on Instagram.
