(ANSA) - ROME, JULY 03 - At least 43 migrants drowned in a shipwreck off the coast of Tunisia while trying to cross the Mediterranean from Libya to Italy. The boat left Zuara with 127 people on board, 84 of whom were rescued by the Tunisian coast guard.

This was confirmed in a note by the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Tunis Mohamed Zekri, adding that "the migrants, aged between 3 and 40 years (Bengali, Sudanese, Eritrean, Egyptians and Chadians)" were headed for Europe. The rescued migrants were transferred to the port of Zarzis, "to take the necessary measures against them" and subjected to aquarantena.

In the afternoon another broken boat was rescued in front of Sfax. Three people are missing while 19 were rescued and taken to the nearby port.

Meanwhile, in Libya, 14 bodies of migrants, including a woman and a child, were found on the beach of Zawia.
