SENIGALLIA - The exhibition "Giacomelli / Burri. Photography and material imagery" has been inaugurated at Palazzo del Duca in Senigallia, bringing together two great Italian artists of the twentieth century, active in the visual arts, but in different sectors. Not just a combination of individual works by the Senigallian photographer with those of the Umbrian painter, but a real comparison and study that starts from the same relationship between the two artists. The lives of Mario Giacomelli and Alberto Burri have intertwined over the years several times, starting from a meeting in 1966, thanks to the painter and intellectual Nemo Sarteanesi: from a mutual esteem and admiration, their relationship has merged into a common search, in a dialogue between their works of painting and photography until it leads to a solid friendship. The exhibition - a 'traveling exhibition that will also touch the MAXXI museum in Rome and the former tobacco dryers in Città di Castello in the autumn - in Senigallia is curated by Marco Pierini, conceived by Mainz and produced with the Municipality of Senigallia, the MAXXI Foundation, the Palazzo Albizzini Foundation Burri Collection, the Giacomelli Archive and the Sarteanesi Archive. The exhibition itinerary offers an important group of photographs that Mario Giacomelli dedicated to Alberto Burri and Nemo Sarteanesi, belonging to the funds of the Burri Foundation and to the Giacomelli and Sarteanesi archives, combined with some graphic and unique works by Alberto Burri.the Palazzo Albizzini Burri Collection Foundation, the Giacomelli Archive and the Sarteanesi Archive. Starting from the landscape shots of the series "Awareness of nature", "Stories of the Earth" or "Motive suggested by the cutting of the tree", the link between the poetics and styles of Giacomelli and Burri, expressed in the series, is reconstructed. Combustioni 1965 and Cretti 1971: the dialogue between painting and photography is manifested through an "abstract" and "informal" language that leads the two artists - each in their own way but with mutual influences and continuous references - to elaborate a new reality, to build a common feeling about nature and the landscape. Letters and archival documents will also be on display until the end of September in an exhibition that relaunches Senigallia, the City of Photography, as the fulcrum of visual art.
