The moment just before a landslide in the Japanese coastal city of Atami destroys everything in its path.
Eyewitness videos show the force of the land masses.
The masses of earth and water left swaths of destruction in the city, which is built on volcanic hills.
At least two people were killed.
At least 20 more are missing, according to the authorities.
The popular resort of Atami is located around a hundred kilometers southwest of the capital Tokyo.
The landslide occurred after days of heavy rainfall.
In Atami and the Shizuoku region, 313 liters per square meter fell within 48 hours through Saturday - more than otherwise in an entire July.
Rivers developed into torrential rivers.
Bridges were damaged, and train traffic had to be partially suspended, including the high-speed line between Tokyo and Osaka.
The government warned people of further heavy rains.
Floods and landslides are common in Japan during the rainy season.
Experts believe that climate change exacerbates the phenomenon because a warmer atmosphere stores more water, which in turn leads to more intense rainfall.
