(ANSA) - ROME, JULY 04 - The new film by Mamoru Hosoda will have its world premiere at the 74th Cannes Film Festival (6-17 July).

Belle, the Japanese director's animated film will be presented in the Cannes Premiere section, was announced today. After Wolf Children (2012), The Boy and the Beast (2015) and Mirai (2018), it is the first official selection for Mamoru Hosoda.

Belle is the third animated film to be screened at the Festival this year following Ari Folman's Where is Anne Frank and Patrick Imbert's The Summit of the Gods.

Spearhead of a new wave of young animated film directors, Mamoru Hosoda takes the audience into his poetic and avant-garde universe of genres. It tells the story of Suzu, an insecure teenager who lives in a small mountain town with her father ... in real life. Because in the virtual world of U, Suzu becomes Belle, a musical icon followed by over 5 billion followers.

With this film, Mamoru Hosoda returns to the theme of virtual worlds, already covered by Summer Wars. "Belle is the film I have always dreamed of creating - said Mamoru Hosod - I explore romance, action and suspense, as well as deeper themes such as life and death. I hope it will be a great fun show. "

In the Official Selection for the first time, Mamoru Hosoda celebrates 10 years of Studio Chizu in the most beautiful way.
