Covid-19 in France: 9 new deaths, still just over 1,000 patients in critical care

2021-07-04T17:59:45.241Z

Hospital figures continue to decline this Sunday, but vigilance remains in order due to the progression of the Delta variant.

The improvement continues in hospitals.

This Sunday, the health authorities count a total of 7,913 patients who are treated in hospital due to a Covid-19 infection.

A figure that has been falling for several months now.

They were 7,912 patients on Saturday, up from 8,986 a week ago.

Of this total, 1,104 Covid-19 patients are hospitalized in critical care, against 1,102 the day before.

In addition, Public Health France has counted 9 new deaths in the last 24 hours linked to Covid-19, against 17 on Saturday.

A figure lower than usual - like every Sunday - which is explained in particular by the lack of staff at the hospital on weekends.

Thus, some establishments do not or only partially transmit their own reports at the end of the week.

The feedback is therefore incomplete when the balance sheet is announced on Sunday evening.

Overall, however, the trend remains downward.

In total, more than 111,000 people have died since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic in early 2020.

Over 34 million people received their first injection

Worried about the progression of the Delta variant in France and in Europe, Olivier Véran has repeated in recent days the need to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

The Minister of Health again urged the French to be vaccinated on Friday, saying that "there is no brake that exists today", with in particular "nearly 1.5 million doses available for first injections and which have not yet found a taker ”.

From this Monday, candidates for vaccination will be able to make an appointment for two injections in two different places, including their vacation spots. As of July 3, more than 34 million people have received at least one injection (34,487,745 precisely or 51.2% of the total population). Likewise, 24,267,095 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (ie 36% of the total population).
