This guy's penis was broken in a way doctors had never seen

This penile fracture is not a common injury, but doctors who work in the emergency room go out to see patients who suffer from it here and there.

But a fracture like the one that a 40-year-old guy from England came with, the medical literature has not yet recognized

Once in a while there comes a medical case that makes anyone who reads his details shrink uncomfortably - such is the first case where a penis is broken along its length during intercourse.

Transverse fractures in the penis (imagine a branch breaking in two. # Sorry) are not uncommon, but such a fracture - which has passed from the base of the penis to its tip - the doctors have not yet seen.

The case file was published in the British Medical Journal Case Reports, due to its rarity and uniqueness.

The urologists who treated the patient, a 40-year-old man who came to the emergency room, wrote that he said his penis "folded against his partner's perineum during sex."

The perineum is the part between the anus and the genitals.

First case of its kind.

The doctors who treated him in the emergency room suspected that the patient was suffering from a crisis in the albugina tunic, the flexible tissue that holds the spongy tissues of the penis during an erection. An injury of this type is commonly referred to as a 'fracture of the penis', even though the penis has no bones, apparently. Interestingly, the patient said he did not notice the voice typical of a fracture of this type, a kind of thin explosive sound. An MRI scan performed on him provided a possible explanation - the images made it clear that this was not a typical fracture. Instead of breaking across the length of the penis, the Albugina tunic tissue was broken along its entire length.

It turns out that this is the first known case in the medical history of longitudinal fracture of the penis, and although treating physicians had no reason to compare it, they believe that this type of fracture is not characterized by symptoms known as lateral penile fracture (cracking sound at injury, penile discoloration and local swelling).

The patient underwent surgery to repair his injury and recovered completely, which allowed him to even have sex again - but only after 6 months had passed, because anyway .... the doctors further reported that there were no significant changes in the external appearance of his penis following the injury and erection quality. His was not damaged.

There are two poses that are particularly prone to disaster.

"Up to 88.5 percent of penile fractures occur during sexual intercourse. From a retrospective of the cases documented over two decades, the two disaster-prone poses are 'doggy style' and 'man on top,'" the doctors wrote in their report.

Penile fracture is not a very common injury, it is estimated that 1 in 175,000 men suffers such an injury every year, and it is most common in men in their 40s.

The hallmarks of the injury are a swollen and bruised penis that looks like eggplant and another common symptom is curvature of the penis to one side.

When the injury is treated and operated on within 24 hours of its occurrence, the chances of recovery are good.

However, if a longer time passes until treatment, the risk of problems with sexual function increases greatly and, yes, permanent curvature of the penis.

For these reasons, doctors recommend overcoming the shame and approaching for examination and treatment as soon as possible, in case of suspected penis fracture.
