Dispute over the broadcasting slot of the »Weltspiegel«: The traditional international magazine, which bundles political, cultural and everyday reports from reporters and correspondents from different countries, is apparently to be moved from the prominent broadcasting slot on the Sunday evening before the »Tagesschau« to Monday evening at 10:50 pm. This emerges from a statement by the editorial team of the TV show to those responsible for ARD, in which the 45 signatories are "shocked" about the feared devaluation of international reporting.
»The› Weltspiegel ‹is one of the core tasks of ARD.
Foreign content is examined in depth here.
Nowhere is the ramified network of correspondents: more visible inside than in the ›Weltspiegel‹.
A unique selling point that ARD is rightly promoting, «the letter continues.
And: "The postponement of the› Weltspiegel ‹slot, which has been practiced for 58 years (...) is a drastic weakening of international reporting in the Erste." All other magazines in the Erste are prominently placed before the daily topics during the week, "only abroad broadcasts then in the ›death zone‹ «.
As early as 2019, consideration was given to relocating the Weltspiegel.
Even back then, prominent editors and correspondents took a stand against it in a letter of complaint.
With success.
The current letter also refers to the discussion at that time.
“At that time, the artistic directors had spoken out in favor of retaining the traditional broadcasting slot.
The ARD wants to play the trump card that it has with the ›Weltspiegel‹ even more clearly in the future, «it says.
The task of »sharpening the brand core and creating a more comprehensive digital concept« has since been fulfilled »with great commitment and also success in the digital world«.
The letter, signed by 45 journalists and foreign correspondents, closes with an appeal to the general managers and editors-in-chief: "If we at ARD take the profound international reporting seriously, this must also be reflected in the broadcasting slot."
