Green light for the 2021 National Plan for the biological control of the Asian bug through the small samurai wasp, the natural antagonist of this dangerous alien insect that is bringing Italian agriculture to its knees.
The highly anticipated program from the production world was drawn up by Crea Defense and Certification and was approved by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
Also this year it will therefore be possible to intervene to contain the Asian bug which has caused so much damage especially to fruit growing in a large part of the Center North.
Suffice it to say that in 2019 entire areas also lost over 70% of the harvest with a cost of around 600 million euros.
The National Plan will involve 5 regions, Piedmont, Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna and the two autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano. The intervention, explains Crea, has as its primary objective the reconstitution of a natural balance broken by the arrival of the bug, which forced farmers to carry out an increasing number of interventions in a desperate attempt to save production. The Program aims to bring the bug populations back to harmless levels, avoiding the massive use of synthetic insecticides and increasing the resilience of agricultural systems affected by this adversity.
