Many of us make our mouths water at the sight of it.

If only it weren't for the amount of calories that comes from the sugar and chocolate in particular.

Many hobby bakers therefore reduce the amount of sugar specified in the list of ingredients.

But does the cake still taste good?

You don't have to worry about that anymore thanks to the following cake recipe *.

  • 180 g dates without a core (alternatively: soft dates)

  • 200 ml of cream

  • ½ vanilla pod (alternatively: a pinch of ground vanilla)

  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 3 eggs

  • 80 g butter

  • 100 g of flour

  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking soda

: A hand blender is required for this recipe!

Chocolate cake with little sugar: the preparation

  • To prepare, first remove the pips from the dates and soak them in warm water for four hours.

    This step is not necessary if you bought soft dates.

    Also, separate the yolks and whites.

    The latter beat you stiffly.

    Preheat the oven to 170 degrees circulating air.

  • Puree the dates with the cream, vanilla and cocoa powder.

    Add the egg yolks and butter during this process.

    In the end, a smooth mass should emerge.

  • Mix the flour and baking soda into the cocoa and date mixture.

    Then fold in the egg whites.

  • Line any baking pan with parchment paper or brush it with butter.

    Then distribute the mass in the mold.

    Place the dough on the middle rack in your oven.

    Let it bake for 40 minutes.

    Finally, use the chopstick sample to test whether the cake is ready.

  • Depending on your preferences, you can refine the cake with powdered sugar or icing.
