Attention, consumers: Omega Pharma recalls a batch of Magnesium Calcium + D3 tablets as a precaution.
The tablets may contain carcinogenic substances.
Munich - Magnesium is a dietary supplement that is not unknown to many athletes.
An undersupply of magnesium in the body impairs muscle function, can lead to cramps or increase the risk of muscle fiber tears and strains.
If necessary, a magnesium intake plus sufficient fluid is relevant.
The pharmaceutical company Omega Pharma from Herrenberg is now recalling a batch of its magnesium tablets.
The reason: a substance is suspected of being mutagenic and carcinogenic
Recall of magnesium tablets: Mutagenic and carcinogenic even in low concentrations
2-chloroethanol was found in
certain batches of
Magnesium Calcium + D3 tablets
.
The substance is classified as equivalent to ethylene oxide and is considered to be potentially harmful.
"Ethylene oxide itself is suspected of being mutagenic and carcinogenic even at low concentrations in food," writes the manufacturer.
The batches are affected:
Abbey Magnesium Calcium + D3 (42 tablets), L 9320150 (best before date: 08/2021)
Abbey Magnesium Calcium + D3 (42 tablets) L 0080520 (best before date: 02/2022).
The manufacturer urgently requests that you no longer use corresponding packs with the above-mentioned batch numbers.
Consumers who have already bought the corresponding magnesium tablets can return them to their place of purchase for a refund of the purchase price - even without presenting the receipt.
For information: The Abbey Magnesium Calcium + D3 tablets were sold nationwide through branches of E Center, E Neukauf, EDEKA, REWE, real, Rossmann and other retail chains.

Again and again products from the food sector are being recalled. Just recently, a dietary supplement was recalled for similar reasons. A popular snack is currently also affected due to mold exposure.
