The tallest sand castle in the world has been in Denmark since Wednesday.
According to its builders, it is 21.16 meters high - and thus more than three meters higher than the previous record holder from Germany.
In the summer of 2019, a 17.66 meter high sand castle that was built in Binz on Rügen made it into the “Guinness Book of Records”.
The new world record castle is now in the seaside resort of Blokhus in North Jutland. The pyramid-shaped castle was created by the Dutch sand sculptor Wilfred Stijger, he had the help of 30 colleagues. They built 4860 tons of sand on a wooden structure. Ten percent clay was added to ensure that it sticks well. An external coating of glue should provide additional stability so that the castle remains on the North Sea beach of Blokhus until February or March if possible.
The castle is decorated with beach motifs such as waves, beach houses and lighthouses, and a model of the coronavirus with a crown sits enthroned on the top.
"The virus determines our lives everywhere," said sand artist Stijger in explanation.
"It tells us what to do ... It tells us to stay away from our family and friends and not to go to beautiful places."
