Peter de Vries a few moments before the attack in Amsterdam.
On images of two surveillance cameras you can see the crime reporter walking through the city center, on the way to his car.
A short time later a police car drives past, then gunshots can be heard.
The journalist was shot five times.
At least one bullet hits him in the head.
De Vries is rushed to hospital and is still in mortal danger.
An entire country has been in shock since then:
“I cried a little on my bike. I still feel weird and sad. I can't believe that happened. "
"He is known as the most famous crime reporter, but he was also someone who is very compassionate, who has supported the families of victims and has always fought for justice."
Peter de Vries, here on archive photos, regularly appears as a spokesman for victims or witnesses at trials.
He is currently the confidante of the key witness in the so-called "Marengo" trial against one of the most powerful drug traffickers in the country.
The brother and attorney of this key witness were shot dead in 2018 and 2019.
Two suspects have now been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
