Implants loaded with antibiotics manufactured by the company I. Ceram were placed on a man who was the victim of a motorcycle accident. He can now

The amputation of his legs had been seriously considered.

Dominique Morange, 58, victim of a motorcycle accident on May 28, 2020, almost lost the use of his lower limbs due to tissue necrosis and several infections.

But Doctor Deluzarches, orthopedic surgeon at the Henri Mondor hospital in Aurillac (Cantal) went against the recommendations of certain colleagues.

Rather than amputating the victim, he called on the company I. Ceram, based in Limoges (Haute-Vienne), to be able to use an innovative technology: ceramic implants loaded with antibiotics.

This innovation enabled lasting healing of wounds on both legs.

A year later, the patient was able to walk again.

“This is huge progress.

Our anxiety about this type of intervention is infection.

There, that solves the problem ”, testifies Doctor Deluzarches.

“The whole project of our company is taking shape.

We are all the more satisfied that this technology is very young, ”said André Kérisit, CEO of this company created in 2005, which is already working on bone cancer.

“Faced with bone metastases, surgeons are helpless.

Implants loaded with antibiotics can replace limbs with tumors.

"

“The result is remarkable.

It was unexpected ”, rejoices Dominique Morange today.

“I became free and autonomous again.

I can even drive home.

I still have one year of rehabilitation and will then be able to walk again without canes.
