"Virgin River" on Netflix: How Harlequin Novels Became a Blockbuster Series

Season 3 of the series has just been posted on Netflix with its recipe still effective, mixing romance of the literary saga including


A love story that has lasted for fourteen years and 21 books have been published.

Originally, "Virgin River" is a literary saga of Harlequin editions taking place in a small mountain town in California

(Editor's note: in France, the first six books are gathered in three volumes at Editions J'ai Lu).

With each new volume, a new romance is born between two protagonists transforming into a devouring passion and almost systematically giving rise to a marriage after only a few months.

All punctuated by pretty erotic scenes that titillate readers.

Since December 2019, “Virgin River” is also a series of the Netflix platform. The story of the first novel is the backbone of this fiction, between Mel Monroe, a nurse from Los Angeles who decides to make a new start in this lost town following the death of her husband, and Jack Sheridan, former U.S. Army Navy and owner of the only bar and restaurant in the area. The first is played by Alexandra Breckenridge, seen recently in "This Is Us", the second by Martin Henderson who made a passage in "Grey's Anatomy".

American author Robyn Carr has already sold more than 13 million volumes of “Virgin River” worldwide.

She ensures, in a testimony added at the end of the last volume published across the Atlantic in October 2020: “from the very beginning, I thought of a serial version.

"And to recount her first steps on the film set where she had been invited:" The sets exceeded all my expectations ", enthuses the novelist.

“The serial format is completely different from that of books, so the script does not follow that of novels,” she adds.

Passing from the pages to the screen, the saga has gained in dramatic intensity, multiplying the dark intrigues in addition to the love stories. At the very end of Season 2 of "Virgin River", the hero Jack was found bathed in his blood, gunshot wounds, a scene that never happened in the books. If from the first minutes of season 3 which has just been posted on Netflix, it appears that Jack is alive and well, the identity of the shooter constitutes the mystery of the ten new episodes.

Something to keep fans in suspense in this new summer season while the first two were part of Netflix's end-of-year programming.

A third salvo which arrives quite quickly after the previous one, put online in November 2020, to the delight of aficionados whose wait was not as long as usual.
