Strasbourg is experimenting with the vegetated bus shelters of the JC Decaux group, already deployed in La Madeleine (North).
Installed at the beginning of June at the “Bourse Étoile” and “Sainte-Marguerite” stops, these “Filters” have innovative processes.
“On the roof of each bus shelter, there is electrically charged foam.
The polluted air particles are thus attracted by the electrostatic force ”, explains Timmy Floume, engineer JC Decaux.
"The foam absorbs pollutants and thus makes it possible to redistribute purified air under the bus shelters to users", continues the man who designed these Filtero bus shelters.
Appropriate structures because the waiting areas for buses are extremely polluted by automobile traffic and vehicle stops at the edge of the road.
"The advantage is also that these vegetable mosses do not have a root and require very little maintenance", specifies Timmy Floume.
Bus shelters are also intelligent since radars detect the presence of people in order to trigger the ventilation system only when necessary.

"The experimentation phase will last 2 years and if the benefit is significant for users, we can imagine that the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg could deploy others on its public transport network", anticipates Nicolas Philippoteau, Regional Director JC Decaux Grand-Est. If the cost of these vegetated bus shelters remains confidential, their price would be 10 to 15% higher than that of their traditional counterparts.
