Several cities, which had lifted the obligation to wear the mask outdoors, chose to go back, faced with the progress of the

We thought we'd got rid of it, but the break was short-lived.

The mask is already making a comeback in several cities in France, worried about the rapid progression of the Delta variant, which since this weekend has represented more than half of new contaminations.

The decrees passed in this direction in recent days mainly concern seaside resorts, where tourists from all over the country - and even from abroad - are likely to hurry during the summer period.

Thus, the mayor of Touquet (Pas-de-Calais) issued a decree on the subject in early July.

Several streets in this town on the Opal Coast are therefore once again affected by the obligation to wear a mask outdoors.

This Friday, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, announced on Europe 1 that he would once again make the mask compulsory in certain areas of the city.

“I am looking at which sectors require it to be imposed.

But we are going to impose it, ”he said.

Obligation never waived in places

Faced with the Delta variant, the Landes had decided to maintain the mask outdoors in four cities - Dax, Hossegor, Moliets-et-Maa and Léon - until July 6.

This obligation has been renewed for some of the municipalities and extended to others.

Since July 8, it is now necessary to cover your nose and mouth, during the weekend, in several streets of Mont-de-Marsan.

In some areas of Biscarrosse, the mask is also mandatory again every day, reports France Bleu.

Before these decisions, the obligation to wear a mask had never been lifted in certain areas. In the Eure for example, it has remained imposed on the outside around stations and shopping centers. In Bordeaux, the Gironde prefecture has chosen to maintain the wearing of the mask from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., rue Sainte-Catherine and rue Porte Dijeaux. In Lille, more generally, the mask remained necessary in all pedestrian streets. In Saint-Malo, according to a decree of June 18, it is still compulsory in the Intra-Muros and on the ramparts from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Hérault prefecture has also maintained the mask outdoors, under certain conditions, in several streets of its large cities - Montpellier, Béziers - as well as in its most touristic towns. In particular, it remained compulsory from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. in some areas of Cap d'Agde, Palavas-les-Flots and La Grande-Motte.
