Damascus-SANA

Today, the Faculty of Mass Communication at Damascus University honored a number of students who followed the “Comprehensive Media” course, which it held in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students and the Union Center for Media Training in Beirut.

The President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdeen, stressed in his speech the importance of the training aspect for students and the provision of supplies and tools, and the university's keenness and interest in this aspect, pointing to the role of media in society in various social, economic and political aspects.

In a statement to reporters, the Dean of the College of Mass Communication, Dr. Muhammad Al-Omar, stated that the courses were based on the importance of practical and applied training for students, and included the axes of journalism, radio, television and digital media, under the supervision of an “elite of Syrian media professionals.”

Anchor in the Syrian channel, Elisar Mualla, explained in a statement to SANA that she helped the trainees to transform their ideas into television programs or dialogues by explaining the appropriate mechanisms and basic principles of dialogue, based on the fact that students have creative ideas and have an opportunity to excel if they are given the opportunity to work in media institutions.

Nizar Al-Rafei, producer of a news bulletin for Sama TV, pointed out that the course, in addition to the training aspect, provided the trainees with knowledge and philosophical structures about news-making as well as the media discourse to have a long-term impact.

Trainee Suhaib explained that the courses included weekly workshops that gained them a benefit they missed in the curriculum and relied on theoretical information, as it allowed them to be applied and practiced. The two trainees, Khadija Sardar and Rama Al-Allaf, pointed out that the trainers helped them to be more daring and confident.

The ceremony was attended by Nasser Al-Akhdar, Under-Secretary-General of the Islamic Radios and Televisions Union, President of the National Union of Syrian Students, Dareen Suleiman, and Ibrahim Nour El-Din, Director of the Union's Media Training Center in Beirut.
