These are the self-made workbenches of SPIEGEL readers

From doors, leftover carports, pieces of waste: our readers are creative when building their workbenches. In many cases, the result is beautiful to look at. Look for yourself!

There's always at least one good reason to build a workbench.

Anyone who has doubted this artisan axiom will be converted at the latest by the response from readers to the report on the construction of my workbench.

The fact that the specimens are extremely different shows the creativity and individuality of the builders.

Anyone who wants to work wood with hand tools has different needs than someone who prefers to tinker with electronics.

It is therefore not surprising that readers used a variety of materials: remnants of a carport, laminated wood panels from the hardware store, steps from a demolished pub, pieces of waste from a house.

If I interpret the letters correctly, the hobbyists have one thing in common: the joy of their work.

“Anyone who has real ambitions but doesn't dare should start.

No matter how!

A real discovery process, ”wrote one reader.

I can only agree with this appeal.

I haven't had my workbench that long.

But in spite of this, it is now incomprehensible to me how I could have endured without her before.

It has become the heart of my craft shed, in the drawers are all the hand tools that were previously distributed everywhere.

You can wake me up at three in the morning and ask: Where is the used reform plasterer that you prepared back then?

And I could answer: Drawer at the bottom right.

Chisels?

Top left.

Measuring and scribing tools?

Top right.

My beloved Dozuki, whose small, sharp teeth I cherish and care for like my own?

Left, second from the top.

The construction was worth it for that alone.

In my case, it was favored by the forced retreat into private life during the Corona period.

But the examples of my readers show that there is actually never a bad time to build a workbench.

Those who want to be inspired to build their own copy will hopefully find plenty of inspiration in the photo series.

Have fun watching!
