A woman from Bavaria survived a 150 meter fall in the Austrian Alps.

The 78-year-old had strayed from the marked path with her 54-year-old daughter on Saturday at Kleiner Schönberg in Gmunden and fell over several rock steps, as the Upper Austrian police reported.

The woman was seriously injured.

According to the report, the 78-year-old got into a steep, rock-strewn forest area during a mountain tour, slipped and hit small rocky steps several times before a transverse tree trunk stopped her fall.

In shock, her daughter called her husband, who called mountain rescue.

After a difficult recovery because of the inaccessible area, the 78-year-old was taken to a hospital.

The daughter had previously stayed with the injured person and had given first aid.

It is still unclear why the mountaineers lost their way.

Presumably they followed a deer crossing path, the police report said.

Fatal accidents in the Allgäu and the Berchtesgaden Alps

In Bavaria, a 59-year-old had a fatal accident on Saturday while working with wood on Jägersberg near Fischen im Allgäu.

According to the police, the man wanted to cut a spruce and fell down a rock face about 30 meters high.

Neighbors found the man and alerted the rescue workers.

The cause of the crash has not yet been clarified.

A 58-year-old hiker also had a fatal accident on Saturday in the Berchtesgaden Alps.

Together with his companions, the 58-year-old from the Freyung-Grafenau district wanted to climb little Watzmann over the so-called crawl belt.

On the approach, they missed the actual route, as it was called, in crumbling and confusing terrain.

While trying to climb a piece, the man slipped.

He fell about 60 meters.

His companions made an emergency call, but the ambulance of an Austrian rescue helicopter could only determine the death of the man.

According to the current status of the investigation, there was no third-party fault in the fall, the police said.
