Under the title “Linking the University to Society and the Labor Market,” the Faculty of Law at Damascus University launched today the “Professional Practice Office” in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students and the Ministries of Interior and Justice, a program of vocational training courses for the year 2021.
The course program includes the various disciplines of public, commercial, international, private and penal law and targets law graduates and those who wish from all segments of society, regardless of scientific specialization. It is supervised by faculty members at the Faculty of Law and a group of professionals working in the government sector, trade unions and international organizations.
The first session, which opened today, focuses on the subject of cybercrime, its elements and forms, the mechanism for filing complaints by individuals related to this type of crime and who is in charge of this, in addition to discussing axes related to the criminal responsibility of service providers on the network and traditional crimes committed by electronic means, in addition to the judicial police specialized in combating crime Electronic and digital guide.
Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdeen, President of Damascus University, said in a speech during the opening that these courses come within the framework of the university’s strategy and its directive to activate the offices of practicing the profession in a real way in various faculties and specializations, which contributes to achieving the third function of the university, which is community service, indicating that cybercrime is one of the important topics that It is more dangerous than ever and therefore requires greater awareness of all technical, legal and social issues related to it.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Haitham Al-Tas, indicated in a similar speech that these courses come in line with the national project for administrative reform in terms of qualifying national cadres with all skills and refining their expertise, which ensures a continuous supply to the labor market with young elements and qualified expertise.
The trainer, Kholoud Al-Hamwi, the first investigative judge in the Justice Department of Damascus, indicated in a statement to SANA that she shows the trainees pictures and details of the cyber crimes stipulated in Legislative Decree No. 17 of 2012, indicating the need for the student to know in practice how to deal with such lawsuits in this field.
Among the participants in the courses is a third-year law student, Hanan Qatul, who said: It is useful to join these courses and learn about the details of cybercrime issues that many segments of society are exposed to on a daily basis. It is important to know what our rights and duties are towards these issues.
In turn, the participant, lawyer Imad Al-Lajmi, explained that he is participating in the electronic crime and international humanitarian law courses to support his information for the competence stage.
The opening included the honoring of a group of old law school professors in appreciation of their efforts during their scientific and academic career in the college.
