The paper was signed by Sonia Seymour-Mikich, Claus Kleber and Fritz Pleitgen, among others: well-known journalists and correspondents have written a letter to the directors and editors-in-chief of ARD, not to damage the international reporting. .

The background is a dispute over the broadcasting slot of the »Weltspiegel«: The traditional foreign magazine, which bundles political, cultural and everyday reports from reporters and correspondents from different countries, is apparently to be moved from the prominent broadcasting slot on the Sunday evening before the »Tagesschau« to Monday evening 10:50 p.m. . This emerged from a statement by the editorial team of the TV show, in which a few days ago 45 signatories were "shocked" about a feared devaluation of international reporting.

The current letter now says: »By damaging these broadcasting slots - or even canceling them - the ARD itself would seriously damage its reputation as a public broadcaster - and this in times of renewed discussion about the legitimation of this broadcasting and the acceptance of fees.

For these reasons, too, we urgently appeal to abandon the program change plans that have become known.

In any case, Weltspiegel must keep a broadcast slot that is attractive to viewers. ”And further:“ First-class international reporting must not be sacrificed to second-rate Bundesliga football. ”
