The announcement of compulsory vaccination for caregivers prompted strong reactions from medical staff. Laura is a nurse and does not want to be vaccinated, she testifies.

There will be no more nurses, no more caregivers, nothing!

Laura bursts out in her video.

This 35-year-old nurse reacted on the social network TikTok after the announcements of Emmanuel Macron who announced, Monday evening, the compulsory vaccination of caregivers against Covid-19.

Laura's video has racked up over 2.6 million views on TikTok in less than 24 hours.

The young woman posted this video for the attention of her few thousand subscribers, now 21,000, including many nurses.

The clip has been shared over 35,000 times on social media.

The nurse reacts with emotion to the announcement of this new measure and for good reason, Laura does not want to be vaccinated for personal reasons and lives as an injustice for her and her colleagues, a vaccination made compulsory under penalty of sanctions.

"

You will heal yourself on your own

"

Faced with an upsurge in cases of the Delta variant, Emmanuel Macron spoke on Monday in a televised address expected after a new Health Defense Council.

While the president's speech concerned a set of precautionary measures to stem the epidemic, particular attention was paid to vaccination.

The decision fell: from September 15, "

all those in contact with fragile people

" will be checked and sanctioned for lack of having received their two doses.

"

We are being taken away from our wages, there are even those who have proposed prison terms if we do not get vaccinated,

" said Laura. This nurse for five years and mother of two denounces the sanctions, experienced as a "

sacrifice

" and above all an additional pressure on her profession. Working in Charente-Maritime in a structure for severely disabled children, Laura has been arrested for several months after a fatigue injury. The reason, according to her: the workload and working conditions since the start of the pandemic.

Today she is still not cured: "

Many refuse to be vaccinated, we do not all have the same reasons, I personally do not do it because we have no hindsight on the vaccine ...

If the nurse expresses personal concerns, the video sharing number speaks for itself.

More than the fear of the vaccine, there is also “

disgust

” with the working conditions of caregivers, the lack of recognition, the feeling that nothing is going to change.

In addition, there is now, for some, the fear of losing their job.

A risk of being laid off, without pay

You will take care of yourself, you will put your urinary catheter on your own (...) because there will be no more nurses, no more nursing assistants, nothing!

Laura, like others, fears a wave of departure from the profession.

If for her a good part will "

give in

" to the vaccine for fear of losing their job and out of professional conscience, others will drop the blouse.

Laura and her colleagues received an email from their management this morning.

Each member must be able to justify a first dose and the appointment made for the 2nd, on August 27.

The announced deadline is September 15 under penalty of layoff without pay.

"

We must move towards the vaccination of all French people

", recalled the Head of State.

If the stated objective is to boost vaccination to achieve collective immunity, the government has insisted on the case of caregivers, still too little vaccinated.

According to the latest data from Public Health France, the vaccination coverage of fully vaccinated professionals in nursing homes and USLDs (long-term care units) is only 49.3%.

Compulsory vaccination therefore concerns "

all nursing and non-nursing staff in hospitals, clinics, retirement homes, establishments for people with disabilities

" as well as "

all professionals or volunteers who work in contact with the elderly or frail, including at home

”.
