Trees, flowers and lawns need a lot of attention in summer.
We reveal what to look out for.
The sun is shining and the temperatures are climbing: Summer is the perfect time to relax in the garden.
But anyone who goes outside after a long period of time could fall into paralysis.
Many hobby gardeners find discolored lawns, dried up flowers and plants eaten by insects.
Preparations must be made to avoid these problems.
At the same time, it is important
to avoid classic gardening mistakes
.
We will explain what these are in the following.
Burned lawn: how to prevent it
When we go into the garden, we expect a green paradise. In summer, however, we occasionally discover a brown steppe. The lawn burns in great, dry heat. However, this condition is by no means unavoidable. In fact, the way we mow our meadows can make a difference. In summer it is advisable not to cut the blades of grass too short. Adjust the lawn mower to six to seven centimeters. This means that the stalks are usually long enough
to shade the ground
. This means that water from the rain or garden hose does not evaporate as quickly.
Speaking of evaporation, did you know that the time of day you water your plants can play a big role in the summer?
So you shouldn't water your crops during the day when the sun is high.
It would be more advisable in
the late evening
or
early morning
when it is a little cooler.
This means that the water does not evaporate as quickly due to the heat.

Plants keep drying up: this may be the reason
Do you water like a world champion and still your plants dry up?
Perhaps the following explanation for this phenomenon applies:
You have chosen the wrong location for your flowers
.
Not every plant can cope with a sunny south-facing side.
Some prefer it more shady.
If you are currently looking for new plants for your beds and pots, you should find out exactly how much sun and shade your desired specimens can withstand.
In places with a lot of light exposure, plants that
do not require as much water
are worthwhile
.
Protect plants from animals: Prepare well in advance
In summer we look forward to all kinds of flowers, fruits and vegetables from our own garden.
Unfortunately, we share this joy with insects and rodents.
If you are not careful, you will lose your plants to voracious animals.
So make the necessary preparations in good time to keep snails, wasps, predatory birds and mice away from your plants.
