Be it at the lake or on the beach: sunscreen is needed in blazing heat.
But which one is best?
The winner of Stiftung Warentest makes you sit up and take notice.
Berlin - It is a constant companion on all excursions and vacations in summer: the sunscreen.
Be it just for a day trip to the lake or to the mountains or for a holiday on the beach in Italy *: Regardless of where it is, the sun's UV light has a harmful effect on human skin, which is why it should be protected.
In order to avoid sunburns and other negative consequences such as permanent moles, premature skin aging and skin cancer precursors, sun creams are urgently needed.
Stiftung Warentest * has now chosen a product as the winner that might surprise some consumers.
Stiftung Warentest selects inexpensive sunscreen as the test winner
Stiftung Warentest tested a total of 19 sunscreens with different sun protection factors, 17 of which received either the rating 'good' or 'very good', the non-profit consumer organization writes on its website. She also referred to the results of a study from 2019, according to which almost every sun cream in German retail provides reliable protection. The only important thing is that enough sun cream is applied to the skin - a man who is 1.80 meters tall needs around three tablespoons of the cream to protect himself all over his body, i.e. around 40 milliliters. Flat sunscreen doesn't last long - which is why the price aspect also played an important role when testing the sunscreen. Still surprising for many: First place went to a cheap sunscreen, the "Sundance sun milk" from the drugstore chain dm *. It received a grade of 1.3 and costs around three euros in stores.
Stiftung Warentest: The expensive sun creams bring up the rear in the test
After “Sundance Sonnenmilch”, there are many other discount and drugstore sun creams from the lower price segment. Stiftung Warentest writes that customers would get very good sun protection for as little as 1.10 euros per 100 milliliters. In contrast, some sunscreens from the more expensive price segment bring up the rear. "The Ritual of Karma Sun Protection Milky Spray" from Rituals and the "Sun Sun Cream" from Speick took the last places in the test run. Both do not keep what the price of 9.30 euros per milliliter (Rituals) and 21.70 euros (Speick) would like to suggest - Stiftung Warentest ruled that both products did not achieve the specified protection factor and were therefore rated “poor”.
