Who are considered vaccine-suppressed and why do they receive a third dose?

Israel is the first country in the world to give a third dose of corona vaccine to immunosuppressants.

In the video: Vaccine suppressants receive the third dose against the corona (Walla system!)

The operation to administer the third dose of the corona vaccine began yesterday (Monday) across the country, and Israel is the first country in the world to give another dose in addition to the two doses already given. Although the decision draws a lot of criticism in Israel and around the world, the Israeli decision was made by the Immunization Committee due to accumulated evidence that patients suffering from immunosuppression do not develop a sufficient antibody response after receiving only two doses, and some may develop antibodies after a third dose.

At the same time as, unlike Israel, this morning the US health authorities decided that Americans who had been vaccinated with two doses of the corona virus did not need a third vaccine at this stage.

According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health in Israel, patients will be divided into two groups.

The first group is a group of heart, lung and kidney transplant recipients, which can be vaccinated in a third dose without the need for antibody testing before or after the third dose.

In the second group, which includes liver transplant recipients, patients suffering from an initial defect in the immune system, etc., it is recommended to perform a serological test at least 14 days after the second vaccine dose and before the third dose.

The ministry also recommended that the time interval between the second and third dose be 8 weeks.

The minimum interval is 4 weeks.

What exactly are immunosuppressants and why is their immune response poorer than others?

How does the immune system work?

The human body's immune system is a sophisticated system designed to protect the body from external factors that do not belong to the body (pathogenic pathogens). It is divided into two systems: the innate system and the acquired system. When a foreign body enters the body of the line of defense, the first to come into action is the innate system. The main purpose of this system is to prevent immediately (up to 96 hours) the spread and movement in the body drum of foreign factors. The body organs that participate in the first line of defense are the hair, skin, mucous membranes of the mouth and nose, acidity of the stomach and more.

The second line of defense, which works later (after 96 hours) is the acquired, specific immune system. This works against a particular pathogen, and its main mechanism of action is the replication of immune cells called lymphocytes for the production of antibodies against that invader. This system has a long-term memory and the pathogens will be remembered even when the immune system meets them in many years.

What is immunosuppression?

A case of immunosuppression is a condition in which the immune system does not function properly, usually due to a disruption of lymphocyte activity.

In such a situation we are more prone to infections, so a person who is suppressed by a vaccine may get sick much more easily and get more serious diseases since there is no fight of the body against infections (to the point of repeated hospitalizations due to an infection that another person could have simply).

In general, the same person will be required to take much stricter precautions than a normal person.

What can cause immunosuppression?

The causes of various immunosuppressants, from old age (the effectiveness of the immune system decreases with age), chronic diseases (such as chronic kidney disease or even diabetes), immunosuppressive drugs taken due to autoimmune diseases, people whose spleen has been removed (a strange organ most of us do not know what Its role but turns out to play an important role in the immune system), chemotherapy and radiation therapy in cancer, HIV and AIDS patients, to more rare diseases in which there is genetic and congenital damage to the immune system.

How can a person suppressed by a vaccine defend himself?

As always the best treatment is prevention.

Efforts should be made to avoid contact with infections, for example to be more careful with foods that can cause food poisoning, to pay extra attention to hygiene and hand washing as well as to clean the environment and of course to avoid contact with people known to be contagious.

Certain conditions will require taking preventative antibiotics after a doctor's prescription and of course it will be necessary to pay special attention to vaccines that protect against dangerous infections, just like the corona vaccine.
