It's a big “phew! »Of relief for all opponents, citizen associations and personalities such as Jean-Louis Étienne or Yann Queffélec: Michel Giboire has declared that he is abandoning his 4-star hotel project on the tiny Berder island, anchored in the town of Larmor-Baden, in the entrance to the Gulf of Morbihan. This 23 ha island, remarkable for its natural spaces, is separated from the mainland by an old submersible causeway of about 80 m, which can be crossed a few hours a day depending on the tides. The real estate developer (Giboire group), who bought it from Yves Rocher in 2013, had planned to renovate and expand a manor house and build a swimming pool, a SPA or even a parking lot with 97 spaces ...

But now, a court decision, rendered this week by the administrative court of Rennes has changed the situation. "We have launched four appeals, including three against Giboire," explains Marc Chapiro, spokesperson for the grouping of associations Berder Ensemble. These last three are still in progress, but the justice has just ruled on the fourth, against the mayor of Larmor-Baden, who modified the PLU in 2019 to allow Giboire to make its extension of 30% of the built surface. The court has just partially canceled this PLU, while recognizing its illegal nature, and the remarkable quality, from an environmental point of view, of the island. "

Giboire, whom we could not reach, is currently studying, according to AFP, "the options for the future of the island". For now, the collective ensures, for its part, "continue on its way so that the island becomes again a natural space that the population can reclaim".
