After an epidemic outbreak, the authorities banned fireworks and firefighters' balls in Haute-Corse this Wednesday, July 14.

New restrictions on the Isle of Beauty. After an upsurge in new cases of Covid-19 in Haute-Corse, mainly in Balagne where a cluster has been observed in recent days, the prefect of the department has decided to tighten the screw. Saturday, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) and the prefecture of Haute-Corse warned that "about fifty positive cases" had been identified the same day, following festive events held in the region. The incidence rate is now 380 per 100,000 people, ie 7.6 times the alert threshold set at 50. The authorities have indicated that 80% of these new contaminations are linked to the Delta variant.

As a result, the prefect of Haute-Corse, François Ravier, announced on Tuesday the implementation of new restrictive measures which will apply from this Wednesday July 14 until August 1, in Balagne and Saint-Florent, or 37 municipalities in total, reports France 3 Corse.

First announcement: the fireworks of July 14 as well as the balls of firefighters are prohibited.

Likewise, new restrictions will apply in bars and restaurants: these establishments will have to close at 11 p.m. while having to respect a limit of 50% indoors and outdoors.

No more than 50 people gathered outside

Music is also prohibited inside these establishments, as is consumption while standing.

Travel within these businesses must always be carried out with a mask.

Finally, indoor and outdoor festive and family events cannot bring together more than 50 people.

Regarding open-air festivals, they will also be obliged to close at 11 p.m.

"The people received have a seat, wearing a mask is compulsory at all times and the sale of drinks and food is prohibited," said the prefect's decree published in the evening.

Note however, nightclubs, subject to the health pass, are not affected by these new measures.

On the other hand, concerts in closed places are prohibited until August 1 throughout the department.

Between 100 and 150 gendarmes will be mobilized during the day throughout the territory, and 80 to 120 at night, in order to ensure compliance with these measures, warned the prefect of Haute-Corse, François Ravier.

Reinforcement will also be provided by CRS forces.

For now, the rest of the island is not affected by this turn of the sanitary screw.
