A burglar in North Rhine-Westphalia has apparently made it easy for the investigators: In Mönchengladbach he lost a passport at the crime scene.
The man got into a diner early Tuesday morning and tampered with the cash register, the police said.
The noises woke up the owner, who was sleeping in the next room.
When he went to look in the sales room, the surprised thief fled through a window with a small amount of cash - and left the passport behind.
The police initiated a manhunt for a homeless 30-year-old, which was initially unsuccessful.
However, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday night.
A judge issued an arrest warrant against him.
