(ANSAMed) - BEIRUT, JULY 15 - Nine civilians including three Syrian children were killed today in artillery raids attributed to the government of Damascus in the northwestern region of Idlib out of government control and under Turkish influence. This was reported by the National Observatory for Human Rights in Syria, according to which the shelling took place in the last few hours near Fuaa, a town a few kilometers north-east of Idlib, the capital of the battered Syrian region.

Six civilians, including a child, were killed here, according to the Observatory, which has been using a dense network of sources on the ground for years.

Three other civilians, including two children, were killed instead in Iblin, a locality 20 km southwest of Idlib, captured by other government artillery bombings.

Also in Iblin, at the beginning of the month, another 9 civilians were killed in similar artillery raids, again attributed to government forces.

The Idlib area has been affected by a negotiated treaty between Russia and Turkey since March 2020, respectively allied with government forces and anti-regime insurgents.

According to the UN, about 4 million civilians with 'humanitarian needs' are massed in and around Idlib, more than half of whom are displaced from other regions of Syria overwhelmed by more than 10 years of armed violence. (ANSAMed).
