Bad weather: orange alert in Sicily, yellow in 10 regions

The announced phase of bad weather persists in most of the central regions and will extend to the whole of the South in the next few hours. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - ROME, JULY 17 - The announced phase of bad weather persists in most of the central regions and will extend throughout the South in the next few hours. On the basis of the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection, in agreement with the regions involved - which are responsible for the activation of the civil protection systems in the territories concerned - has issued a further notice of adverse weather conditions, which integrates and extends the diffusoieri one. The weather phenomena, impacting on the various areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it).


    The warning foresees from the early hours of tomorrow, Sunday 18 July, rainfall with a prevalent thunderstorm character on the Romagna. The persistence of temporal phenomena is also expected on Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Puglia and Basilicata, in extension to Calabria and Sicily. The phenomena will be accompanied by strong showers, hailstorms, frequent electrical activity and strong gusts.


    On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, an orange alert for hydrogeological and thunderstorm risk on the northern sectors of Sicily was assessed for tomorrow, Sunday 18 July. Yellow alert on the rest of the Sicilian island and on all southern regions, as well as in the Marche, Umbria and part of Romagna. (HANDLE).
