(ANSA) - NEW YORK, JULY 16 - The 'Hollywood ripper', Michael Gargiulo, was sentenced to death for killing two women and trying to kill another. This was decided by Los Angeles judge Larry Fidler.
"Wherever it went, it was followed by death and education," the judge said. The case of Gargiulo, 45, hit the headlines because one of the victims was a girl, Ashley Ellerin, who was preparing to go on a date with actor Ashton Kutcher. Ellerin was killed with 47 stab wounds.
The other victim was Maria Bruno, 32 years old and mother of four children: Gargiulo killed her and cut her breast to remove the prostheses. To survive the attack of Gargiulo was instead Michelle Murphy, who fought, forced him to flee and routed the investigators to solve the two previous cases.
In the courtroom Gargiulo said: "I am sentenced to death in an unjust and unjustified way. I wanted to testify but they made me shut up". The serial killer is now likely to be extradited to Illinois, where he is accused of killing another woman.
