(ANSA) - PARIS, JUL 18 - The number of new daily cases of Covid-19 in France has jumped, according to data published today by the Health Authority, to 12,532, the highest number for a Sunday since mid-May. The dead are 5, and bring the total deaths since the beginning of the epidemic to 111,501.
"It is a wake-up call - said government spokesman Gabriel Attal in an interview published by Le Parisi. - France is back above the alert threshold with an incidence rate of over 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, an increase of 80 % in a week, unprecedented since the start of the crisis ".
The vast majority of these new cases are due to the Delta variant. The test positivity rate is 2% against 1.6% the day before.
