The half-timbered town of Bad Münstereifel was a medieval jewel - and is now one of the worst places in North Rhine-Westphalia hit by the floods. The water masses of the Erft destroyed the alleys, numerous bridges and even parts of the historic city wall. A cemetery has also been devastated, cars torn away, and shops, houses and schools have been affected. A nursing home had to be evacuated. The power supply has now been restored, but there is still a lack of fresh water. More than 163 people died in the flood disaster in Germany, 46 of them in North Rhine-Westphalia. Hundreds are still missing.
