Party-goers in London celebrate the lifting of the corona measures: From midnight on the dot, the clubs can reopen without restrictions.
Neither mask nor distance are required in England from today - despite the increasing number of infections.
The day dubbed "Freedom Day" by the press is enthusiastically received here.
Isobel, clubbing girl
"It really feels like a" day of freedom "for me."
Georgia Pike, Club Goer
“I want to dance, I want to hear live music.
I want to feel the mood of a concert, to be with people.
That's what I've been waiting for - we had already lost that feeling. "
While many Britons live out the new freedom extensively in most of the British part of the country, the British Prime Minister goes into quarantine - and reports by video message:
Boris Johnson, Prime Minister Great Britain
"I will go into self-isolation until July 26th."
Johnson had been in contact with his vaccinated health minister, Sajid Javid, who was still suffering from Covid-19.
He now pleads for caution and personal responsibility:
Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister
“Please, please, please, be careful.
Start the day with the right care and respect for your fellow human beings and think about the risks that the virus continues to pose.
And above all: please, please, please, when the invitation to a second vaccination comes - go and take it. "
Now, 88% of adults in the UK have had a first vaccination and just under 68% have already been vaccinated a second time.
The government had justified the radical opening step with the high vaccination rate in the country.
But experts warn that the situation could get out of control despite the high vaccination rate - and even among clubbers there were some concerns.
Gary Cartmil, Club Goer
“It's nice, but ultimately there will be impending disaster if everyone mingles and doesn't really know what they're doing.
I believe that those who are vaccinated consider themselves invulnerable. "
Up to 40,000 new Covid cases are currently registered in England every day.
That is almost as many as at the height of the second wave at the turn of the year.
