The number of people killed on the roads of metropolitan France in June fell by 1% compared to June 2019 with 289 deaths, according to figures released Monday by Road Safety.
"This result is comparable to that of June 2019 (3 fewer fatalities) but remains slightly lower compared to the average for the months of June 2015-2019 (-3%)", specifies Road Safety.
This stability compared to June 2019 is explained by the return to traffic almost similar to that before the health crisis observed by Cerema (Center for Studies and Expertise on Risks, the Environment, Mobility and layout).
The month of June 2020 was marked by a significant drop in travel: compared to that month, 78 more people were killed in June 2021 (+ 37%).

Compared with June 2019, mortality is particularly on the rise among cyclists (28 killed, 12 more people), users of motorized personal transport vehicles (4.2 more people) and children (27.14 more people). more).
On the other hand, it is down for motorists (110, or 22 people less).
In Overseas Territories, 18 people were killed in a road accident against 20 in June 2020 and 23 in June 2019.
