With the view of this new hotel it only remains to imagine that you are abroad

In recent years, Tiberias has undergone parallel processes.

On the one hand, extremism and neglect, and on the other hand, the establishment of luxury hotels in the city.

The newly renovated Sofia Hotel is trying to set new standards in the Galilee region.

Does it work for him?

The great freedom is not an easy time for parents, but it forces us (or pushes us - you choose) to get to places we have not been for years.

In our case, it was Tiberias, the hottest weekend that has been here (so far) this summer.

Tiberias, cynically referred to by many as the "French Riviera", is without a doubt one of the tourist misses. Of Israel - a small country that should wisely utilize every stream / lake / or shoreline. Neglected for decades, the character of the city is changing and the city is becoming more and more anxious, but it is precisely hotel owners who are able to see the tourist and business potential here and they hope to attract decision-makers after them.

For example, in recent years, luxury hotels have been built on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, such as Stayy Boutique and with them the Sofia Hotel, which opened only three months ago, was renovated at a cost of NIS 150 million and is, without exaggeration, on the list of five hotels with the most beautiful views in Israel.

This is as long as you look east towards the lake and the Golan Heights.

Every glance away from the lake will remind you that you are still in Tiberias, and the road to turning it into a pearl is supposed to be very long.

Is this what will save Tiberias?

NIS 50 million has been approved for the development of tourism in the city

The story behind the Sofia Hotel is different and unusual in the landscape and tells a personal and regional story. Tiberias, named after the emperor Tiberius, was an ancient city surrounded by a wall. So far so good, now the story begins to get complicated: in 48 when the IDF occupied it, an order was given to demolish all the houses in the city, including 700 old houses that survived two thousand years and for about half a year the Israeli army demolished all the houses for fear of the Arabs returning home. Stopped the directive and what is left are the houses outside the wall, including the restored building of Sofia, which was used by the Ottomans and English, and is named after the owner's grandmother - Raul Srugo, who is also president of the Builders Association of Builders Association.

Until the groups of Christian pilgrims and tourists arrive here, for whom Tiberias is an exciting religious spot, those who are currently crowding the city are, as mentioned, mainly couples and families.

Some of them head to the declared bathing beaches for accommodation in tents while others look for high-class hotels with a pool, which will tire the children on the one hand and not force the parents to run around too much.

The Sofia Hotel's infinity pool and the two pools below it, intended for adults' sunbathing and paddling for the little ones, are probably the hotel's second best asset, as they are beautiful and useful pools that seem to raise the regional standard.

And she goes up to the roof

On the roof floor of the hotel, which is currently used only by the hotel island, a Greek tapas restaurant will be built that is supposed to meet Tel Aviv standards and attract people from all over the area. This beautiful roof demands it. The only problem, and this is a problem that quite a few guests encounter - is the elevators. Two to be exact, for hundreds of guests in 120 rooms. What will happen here when dozens of other people will have to use it in the evening to get to a rooftop restaurant, while many go down and up from dinner at the hotel restaurant? My bet - an impossible load.

Until it starts working, you will find the COCA restaurant, which is defined on the hotel's site as a "top-notch chef restaurant", and serves delicious dishes such as ravioli and chunks of beef in the evening, alongside local Galilean dishes in the morning and surprises like shashlik in a personal pan or mushroom borax with egg inside. The food in the restaurant is very varied and rich, both for breakfast and dinner, but as for Tiberias,He too has another way to go before it fits the high standards of a chef restaurant in the center.

A balcony is requested

The hotel is a few minutes walk to the city center, the promenade and the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

On the other hand, the careful restoration apparently prevented the construction of balconies in the rooms and it is a pity, when the view is so beautiful, that only a balcony is missing to look at.

In addition, you will find in the hotel a wine cellar with a wide local Galilee collection, a kids club, a banquet lounge, a gym overlooking the lake, a synagogue and a spa complex that includes a Turkish bath with a variety of treatments on offer. , So that the Israeli massage becomes a French massage.

Carefully restored structure.

So how much will it cost you?

Two nights in mid-August for a couple, including breakfast, will cost you about NIS 3,500, while a family room suitable for two parents and two children for two nights will cost you about NIS 4,000.

Prices are similar in September during the holidays.
