“We cannot continue like this.

It is impossible.

We have been assaulted for a month and we do not deserve it.

They told us 'you get confused'.

People think that we are responsible for missing vaccines but it is not like that.

We have always been breastfeeding, since December we have been here, leaving our families, ”

Cristina Coronado, one of the nurses who work in the Municipal Gymnasium Number 1 of Trelew

, told

Clarín

, vaccinating against the coronavirus.

This Monday, the nurses

decided to stop vaccinating

when in the middle of the morning they were verbally and almost physically attacked due to the lack of the second dose of Sputnik V that is arriving in the province in a dropper.

“People come in and ask for the second dose of the Russian vaccine.

We explain to them with respect and good manners that they should have their turn and they do not understand that we vaccinate as they received the first dose.

Now it is the turn of those of the month of March.

They demand answers that we don't have.

The only thing we can tell them is to come when their turn comes, ”explained Jimena Maldonado, head of the vaccination program in this city in the province of Chubut.

So far, Chubut is receiving a good amount of vaccines and carrying out an intense logistical operation to be able to vaccinate as soon as possible.

Even in the deep interior, in villages far from the large populated centers.

So far, nearly 50 percent of the population has been vaccinated with at least the first dose.

But

the lack of the second dose of the Russian vaccine

is the one that causes the most concern in people.

“We were verbally abused and a colleague managed to dodge a punch.

We explain everything to people.

We understand it but they cannot treat us badly.

This has been happening for a month and we were tired.

We have been on the front lines of the fight against the virus for a year and a half ”, added Maldonado.

The lack of the second dose of the Russian vaccine led to incidents.

The vaccination continued this Tuesday in a normal way, although

with police custody,

something that did not happen before.

"We had to call the police because everything was unsustainable," said the nurse.

The incident began on Monday, when an older man got up and yelled “vaccinate, you get stunned”, this caused other people to

also react against those who were vaccinating

.

For this reason, and before the string of insults, the professionals decided to stop vaccinating.

The attack was condemned by the Minister of Health, Fabián Puratich, who had already reported that the second dose of Sputnik would arrive in a phased manner.

For now, people who received the first dose in March are being vaccinated.

And it will continue next week with those who were inoculated in April.

“We have been doing double shifts for a long time, we left our families, we are on the front lines of the fight against this pandemic.

And still they insult us.

To think that not long ago, people applauded us ,

"concluded Cristina Coronado.
