The police in Saxony are also investigating a colleague after a suspected racist attack in Bad Schlema.
The Chemnitz Police Department announced that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against the officers of the Zwickau Police Department.
The extent to which the police officer was ultimately involved in the attack would have to be revealed by further investigations.
On Saturday evening, a 20-year-old Somali was said to have been insulted in a bus from a group of eight German men who were “xenophobic”.
The accused are between 37 and 49 years old.
At least two of them are said to have pushed the man to the ground and kicked him.
The bus driver called the police.
On video recordings from the bus, "an active contribution of the officer to the dangerous bodily harm is not evident," said the police.
"But it can also be seen that the police officer did not stop the physical attack and did not come to the aid of the 20-year-old, who was slightly injured." In the course of the investigation, it will be checked whether the officer has committed a criminal offense.
