(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 20 - The former adviser of Boris Johnson, Dominic Cummings, returns to attack the British premier on the management of the coronavirus pandemic. In an interview with the BBC, he revealed that the prime minister last fall did not want to tighten anti-Covid measures because he claimed that love was "essentially all people over 80".
Cummings also claims Johnson sent him a message downplaying the risk of the health system collapsing. "I no longer buy this story of the overwhelmed NHS", the premier would write. Boris wanted the virus to "cross the country" rather than destroy the economy, Cummings insisted, who shared messages sent by Johnson on WhatsApp around October 13-15.
"I must say that I was slightly shocked by some data on deaths from Covid - reads one of them - The average age is 82-81 for men and 85 for women. Above life expectancy. So take Covid. and live longer. Almost all those under 60 who go to hospital (4 percent) practically all survive. "
In response to the ex-adviser's first televised interview, Downing Street reiterated that the prime minister has taken "every action necessary to protect lives and the economy led by the best scientific advisors." (HANDLE).
