But how expensive is it?

More and more insured

persons voluntarily

pay

pension contributions

in order to compensate for deductions in case of earlier retirement. This is reported by the German Press Agency (dpa): While around 11,600 insured persons made use of this option in 2017, there were already 26,000 in 2019, as the pension insurance company announced on the basis of the latest figures. The income from these voluntary contributions increased accordingly - from 207 million euros in 2017 to 416 million two years later.

Those who want

 to retire earlier

* have to

accept

discounts

- which in turn can be offset.

Everyone concerned has to decide for themselves whether the bill will work out for them personally.

Basically, if you meet the conditions for an early retirement pension, you can

 retire

before reaching the

regular age limit

Each month earlier the pension is reduced

For every month

that the insured receive the pension earlier, however, there is a

discount

of 0.3 percent, explained the German pension insurance association according to dpa.

These deductions can be fully or partially offset with special payments.

For example, according to the dpa, with a

gross

pension of 800 euros per month in the old federal states and one year early retirement, the pension reduction would be 3.6 percent or 28.80 euros.

To fully compensate for this reduction, an amount of around 6,750 euros would have to be paid into the pension insurance.

You shouldn't fall for that.

The insured can find out how high the compensation contributions are upon application

From the age of 50, payments can be made in the form of a one-off payment or as partial payments.

Anyone who does not retire early afterwards will receive a correspondingly higher pension for the additional contributions.

A reimbursement of the special contributions is not possible.

The possibility of

compensating for pension reductions through voluntary contributions

was reduced in 2017 with the Flexirentengesetz from 55 to 50 years of age.

The deductions can be fully or partially offset by contribution payments.

The

insured person will be informed of the amount of

the

equalization contributions

upon request.
