The former ringmaster Gerd Siemoneit-Barum has died.
He was 90 years old.
The former predator trainer from Einbeck in Lower Saxony fell asleep peacefully on Tuesday night, the management of the news agency dpa announced.
Siemoneit-Barum suffered a stroke in the spring of 2020.
“We looked after him at home until the end.
He was so incredibly strong and my mother was so brave.
The loss can hardly be put into words, ”said his daughter Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum.
The 43-year-old actress moved back to her parents in Einbeck to support them.
Regular guest at the festival in Monte Carlo
Her father, who was born on March 6, 1931 in Gumbinnen in East Prussia, was last physically impaired, but mentally fit.
Gerd Siemoneit-Barum had several roles in the circus: first he was an equestrian acrobat, then he built up a predatory act for himself.
Soon he was a regular guest at the prestigious festival in Monte Carlo, and in 1972 he bought his own circus.
In 2008 Gerd Siemoneit-Barum withdrew from the ring after more than 60 years and gave up the Circus Barum.
The winter quarters - an estate with stables - was taken over by the Charles Knie circus.
When he had to cancel his tour last year due to the corona pandemic, the team turned Einbecker Hof into an amusement park in the summer and organized variety evenings, which Rebecca Siemoneit-Braum moderated.
